The Three Major Changes You Need to Know:
1. No More Free Licensing (Rs. 1,000/kW Fee)
Previously, systems under 25kW were exempt from direct NEPRA licensing. Under the new rules, all new installations must obtain formal concurrence from NEPRA.
- The Cost: A processing fee of Rs. 1,000 per kilowatt is now mandatory. For a 10kW system, that’s an extra Rs. 10,000 upfront.
2. Net Metering vs. Net Billing (60-70% Cut in Earnings)
The shift to “Net Billing” means your exports are now worth much less.
- Old Rate: ~Rs. 26/unit.
- New Rate: ~Rs. 9/unit. Selling power at Rs. 9 but buying it back at Rs. 55+ per unit is a huge financial loss.
